10 Fun Things to Do in Las Vegas (Besides Gambling)

If you’re looking for a sign to visit Las Vegas, it’s in the photo above…
When most people think of Las Vegas, flashing slot machines, packed casinos, and late-night poker games come to mind. But there’s so much more to Sin City than high-stakes gambling. Whether you’re not much of a gambler, you’re traveling with kids, or you simply want to experience a different side of Vegas, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by just how much this city in the middle of the desert has to offer.
From world-class entertainment and quirky museums to natural wonders just a short drive away, Las Vegas is full of surprising adventures. In this post, I’m sharing some of my favorite things to see and do in and around Vegas that don’t involve placing a single bet (though you’re still welcome to try your luck if the mood strikes)!
10 Fun Things to Do in Las Vegas
1. Snap a Photo at the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” Sign
No Vegas trip is complete without a photo in front of this iconic sign. Go early in the morning or just before sunset for the best lighting and fewer crowds.

2. Drive to Hoover Dam
Just 45 minutes from the Strip, Hoover Dam is a stunning feat of engineering that straddles the border of Nevada and Arizona. You can walk across the dam, take a guided tour, or just admire the views of the Colorado River.

3. Hike at Valley of Fire State Park
Trade neon lights for red sandstone and rocks in Nevada’s oldest and most colorful state park. About an hour from Vegas, Valley of Fire offers scenic drives and short, fiery hikes through slot canyons and ancient petroglyphs.

4. Experience Fremont Street (AKA Old Vegas)
Head downtown to explore vintage Vegas, where neon lights still buzz and street performers add flair. Don’t miss the Viva Vision light show overhead. It’s like Times Square, but retro and somehow weirder.

5. Explore a Quirky Museum
The Neon Museum outdoor “graveyard” where retired Vegas signs go to glow again. Take a guided tour after dark to see the signs lit up and hear the stories behind these larger-than-life relics. If vintage signage doesn’t quite spark your interest, head to the nearby Mob Museum for an exploration of the city’s darker side. Explore the history of organized crime in Vegas and beyond through immersive exhibits and real-life artifacts.

6. Indulge in a Buffet Breakfast
Vegas is famous for its over-the-top buffets, and breakfast is no exception. Whether you go classic at The Buffet at Wynn or try something trendy at Bacchanal, be sure to make reservations and show up hungry!

7. See a Spectacular Show
From Cirque du Soleil spectacles to magic acts and superstar residencies, Vegas knows how to entertain. There’s truly something for every vibe and budget. Book ahead for the best seats and rates!
8. Wander the Strip
Even if you’re not interested in gambling, the famous Las Vegas Strip is still worth exploring. Stroll down and take in the themed hotels (like the Paris and the Venetian), the fountain shows outside of the Bellagio hotel, and general sensory overload. Bonus points if you make it from the Luxor to the Venetian without stopping for a cocktail along the way!

9. Ride the High Roller
This 550-foot-tall observation wheel offers sweeping views of the Strip and beyond. Opt for a sunset ride, or book a happy half hour pod for a 30-minute spin with an open bar.

10. Take a Day Trip to the Grand Canyon or Zion National Park
Feeling ambitious and looking to escape the bustle of the Las Vegas Strip? Both the Grand Canyon (South Rim) and Zion are doable as long day trips. Expect early wake-up calls and late returns, but the jaw-dropping landscapes are well worth it.
Final Thoughts
Las Vegas might be best known for its casinos and nightlife, but there’s a whole other side to the city. Whether you’re chasing hiking in the desert, indulging in a delicious buffet or catching a show, there’s no shortage of memorable, non-gambling experiences to enjoy in Sin City!
